Getting started
- Open LinkLane. It lives in the menu bar (chain icon) and has no Dock icon.
- Choose General → Set as Default Browser and confirm the macOS dialog.
- Under Rules, add rules by domain or source app, and choose what happens Without a Matching Rule.
Frequently asked questions
My browser profiles are not listed. macOS may block access to browser data. Under Browsers, click Allow Access… for the browser and confirm the folder that is already selected. LinkLane only reads profile names and never changes browser files.
Fixed profiles in Chrome, Edge or Dia don't work in the App Store version. They need the free LinkLane Helper.
Why can't I pick a Safari or Firefox profile? Neither browser offers a reliable way for other apps to choose a profile. Safari can assign websites to profiles itself under Settings → Websites → Open Links with Profile.
A rule by source app does not match. Some apps open links through short-lived helper processes, so the source cannot always be detected. Such links count as “unknown source” and use the following rules or the default. The link history shows the detected source.
How do I choose a browser just once? Hold fn or Shift while clicking the link until the chooser appears.
How do I move my rules to another Mac? Under General → Back Up Settings, export to a file and import it on the other Mac.
How do I uninstall LinkLane? First choose another default browser in System Settings → Desktop & Dock, quit LinkLane from the menu bar and move it to the Trash. Settings and history are stored in LinkLane's container under ~/Library/Containers.
